Arthur Hoegh Hansen

Arthur Hoegh Hansen, the son of Walter and Katherine M. Hoegh Hansen, was born September 12, 1918, at his home in rural Exira, Iowa and died March 1, 2009, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 19 days.
Art was baptized and confirmed at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa. He attended rural school Oakfield No. 5. Art helped operate the family farm. On July 19 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served as a heavy truck driver with the 168th Quartermaster Truck Company in Germany. He drove various types of military vehicles up to and including a 10 ton semi-trailer truck hauling supplies, equipment and military personnel. He returned to the United States after serving in the European Theater for one year and six months. On June 27, 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm. During this time Art took over the management of the family farm.
On April 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Annabelle Jensen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. They operated the family farm located six miles west of Exira until he retired from farming in 1976. Art was employed by Kozy Manufacturing assembling hog feeders until he retired in 1980. They lived on the family farm until Art moved to the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, IA in October 2007. Annabelle moved to the Salem Lutheran Home and joined Art in November 2007. Annabelle died May 24, 2008. Art moved to the Exira Care Center in January 2009.
Art was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church. He had been a member of the Brayton Post No. 350, American Legion Brayton, Iowa for over sixty years. Art and Annabelle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April 2004.
Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents; his brother Elmer Hansen and his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Jens and Johanna Jensen.
Survivors include his children: Randy Hansen of Exira and friend Holly Swain of Atlantic, IA and Lisa and her husband Marty Ericksen of Elk Horn, IA; his grandchildren: Matthew Ericksen of Carroll, IA and Courtney Ericksen of Elk Horn, IA; his brother Merlyn Hansen of Brayton, IA; his sister-in-law and her husband: Rosa and Glen Clemsen of Exira, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Brayton Lutheran Church.
