Beulah Bills, the daughter of Thomas and Amanda Keightley Crees, was born August 11, 1915, at her parents home in Greeley Township, Audubon County, east of Exira, Iowa and passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 9 days.
Beulah was baptized at the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira. She attended rural schools in Audubon County and attended Audubon High School. She then worked various jobs for several years.
On September 25, 1933, she was united in marriage to Gordon L. Bills at a Methodist Church Parsonage in Omaha, Nebraska. Two sons, Stephen G. and Rodney A. were born to this union. While Gordon was in the service they lived in Florida for a short time and Beulah worked picking and packing oranges. After Gordon was discharged they lived in Glenwood, IA and Atlantic, IA before settling in Exira. Beulah was a home maker most of her life taking good care of Gordon and raising their sons. Gordon died on January 11, 1975. Beulah lived in Exira then moved to an apartment in Atlantic, IA in 2008 before moving to the Heritage House in July of 2009.
Beulah was an active member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira. She volunteered her time helping with the bloodmobile and working for the election board. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends playing cards.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, Gordon, were her son: Rodney Bills, her parents; her brothers and sisters: Genevieve Schwab, Ruth Fredrick, James Crees, Milton Crees, Daniel Crees, Katherine Roberts, Marie Christensen, and Wayne Crees.
Survivors include her son: Stephen Bills; her daughter-in-law: Donna Bills and Rick Tibben all of Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren: Melissa and husband Shawn Sarsfield of Atlantic, Alyson and Matt Klein of Lewis, IA; Jason Bills and Tyler Bills both of Atlantic; her great grandchildren: Stephen Ross and Nicole Ross both of Atlantic and Kassidy Klein and Kaler Klein both of Lewis; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
