Beulah Lorraine Lucas, the daughter of Samuel and Ella (Smith) Kopp was born September 11, 1913, in Glidden, Iowa and died February 1, 2014, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Beulah was baptized and confirmed. She attended school and graduated from High School in 1931. Beulah then attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where she received her teaching certificate. Later in 1965, she received her bachelor’s degree from Drake University. On July 3, 1938, she was united in marriage to Earl E. Lucas in Indianola, Iowa. Two sons, Gary and Joseph were born to this union. They lived in Audubon, Iowa for a short time then moved to San Pedro, California. They returned to Audubon when Earl was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1944. Beulah taught school in the Audubon Community School system for over 30 years. Earl died February 26, 1993. Beulah enjoyed her home in Audubon for many years. In 2011, she moved to Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa to be closer to her family. Beulah was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon where she had served as an elder. She was the Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Audubon and the past president of the Audubon P.E.O. Chapter. She also served as a director on the Audubon County Hospital Foundation Board. Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years Earl Lucas; her parents; and her sister Louise Haslup. Beulah will be missed by her sons, Gary and wife Joan Lucas of Indianola, Iowa and Joseph and wife Nancy Lucas of West Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Brooke Lucas of Lebanon, Tennessee, Bret and wife Susan Lucas of Johnston, Iowa, Robin and husband Tim Elliott of Grinnell, Iowa, Van and wife Vickie Lucas of Indianola, Iowa, Lane Lucas of West Des Moines, Iowa; her brother, Dr. Wendall J. Kopp of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; her sister, Alicemae Bradley of Indianola, Iowa; her step-grandchildren, John Gentile of Des Moines, Iowa, Joe and wife Marianne Gentile of West Des Moines, Iowa and many nieces.

Private burial will be at a later date.
Service:
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, at Iles Dunn’s Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Also a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.
