David Eugene Swolley, was born May 21, 1955 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Helen (Dye) Swolley and Francis "Bud" Swolley Sr., and died March 3, 2024, at the Douglas County Health Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
David was baptized and confirmed at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church as an adult on August 21, 2021. David graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1974 and attended Hawkeye Community College before enlisting in the US Marine Corp in 1974. He served until 1995, receiving an honorable discharge upon retirement after 21 years. He went on to volunteer and serve offices at the Waterloo VFW Post 1 623 from 1996 until his illness disrupted his ability to do so in 2014.
David married Robin Stormer in 1975. The couple had three children. They divorced in 1989. Later, he married Ronda (Hansen) Swolley on June 28, 1998 and helped raised her children as his own.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Lyle Swolley, his sister Shelley Swolley, his sister Judy Swolley Hollinger, brother-in-law Kenneth Hollinger, niece Christina Swolley, and father-in-law Ronald Hansen, Jr.
David is survived by his wife Ronda Swolley; his children: Jacob Swolley, Brandy (Travis) Schleusner, and Toby Swolley; his step-children Heath (Kim Stowell) Robinson, Kari Hansen, and Jessica "Jessie" (Jesse Mills) Hansen; his grandchildren Mike Swolley, Nikki/Jordan (Adam) Swolley, Shyenne Swolley, Aidan Valentine, Mathew Swolley, and Loretta "Letty" Mills; his siblings: Francis "Bud" (Linda) Swolley Jr, Jerry (Audrey) Swolley, Julie (Jim) Swolley, and Steve (Tootsie) Swolley; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His mother-in-law: Margaret Hansen, and his wife's siblings.
The family will meet with friends Friday morning, March 8, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. David will then be transported to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel, Iowa where there will be a brief service at 2:00 p.m. in the cemetery’s Chapel conducted by Father Philip Bempong followed by Military Graveside Rites.
