Elsie S. Hansen, the daughter of Christian and Anna Johanna Jensen Berg, was born April 16, 1919, at her parents home in Audubon, Iowa and died June 9, 2010, at her home in Audubon at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
Elsie was baptized June 1, 1919, and confirmed April 22, 1934, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended Audubon Community Schools, graduating with the High School Class of 1937. Elsie then was employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for several years.
On March 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Albert Hansen at Our Saviours Lutheran Church Parsonage in Audubon. They purchased a farm in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa. Elsie was a homemaker and helped John operate the farm. They retired from farming and moved into Audubon on April 1, 1989. Elsie helped care for John until he died on April 10, 1995. Elsie lived in their home and enjoyed taking her daily walks.
Elsie was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon and a member of the womens circle. She was a member of a neighborhood club and was a 4-H leader. Elsie enjoyed walking, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Farming was her life and she enjoyed the many years living on the farm.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband John; were her parents; her brother: John and wife Edith Berg; her sister: Marie and husband Alfred Winther; two half-brothers; two half-sisters; her brothers-in-law: Gus Leader and August Owen.
Survivors include her children: Sharon and husband Kaye Brugger of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Judith and husband Tim Moyer of Sugar Land, Texas, Charles and wife Joni Hansen of Manning; her grandchildren: Elizabeth and husband Mike Green and Donna Ronning all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Paula Sliefert of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Michelle and husband Brent Kuik Of Harrisburg, Jason and wife Rebecca Brugger of Sioux Falls, Greg and wife Rachel Hansen of Manning, Sara and husband Brad Slater of Audubon, Jenny Hansen of Omaha, Nebraska, Heidi Hansen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Kylie and Chase Green and Jackson Brugger of Sioux Falls, Peyton Kuik of Harrisburg, Rylan and Colton Hansen of Manning, Grace and Ava Slater of Audubon; her sisters-in-law: Martha Leader of Bellevue, Nebraska, Elaine Owen of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Lystig on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
