Evelyn Meta Taggart, the daughter of Peter and Minnie Ottesen Jensen, was born April 11, 1915, at her parents home in Audubon County, Iowa and died July 11, 2008, at the Friendship Home in Audubon at the age of 93 years and 3 months.
Evelyn was baptized in the Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended rural schools, then attended Audubon High School, graduating with the High School Class of 1933. Evelyn then helped at home.
On March 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Warren Edward Taggart at Our Saviours Lutheran Church Parsonage in Audubon. They operated farms in Guthrie County and Melville Township in Audubon County. During this time Evelyn was a homemaker. They had a farm sale in 1966, then moved into Audubon. Evelyn was employed as a clerk at Federated for a short time. She then worked at the Friendship Home in Audubon and received her Certified Nurses Assistant. She worked at the Friendship Home until she retired in the mid 1980s. During retirement they enjoyed their home and Evelyn enjoyed volunteering at the church. Evelyn and Warren moved to the Friendship Home in March of 2005. Warren died April 5, 2006.
Evelyn was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She taught Sunday School and Bible School during the summer. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her parents; her brothers and sisters: Mildred and Leslie Eddy; Theodore O. and Blanche Jensen; J. Edwin and Marian Jensen; Emmert and Edith Jensen; Verna and Victor Sorensen; Gordon and Lela Jensen; Glenn Jensen and Allan K. Jensen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Maurice and Helen Taggart; Clarence and Laura Taggart; Gladys and Ivan Root; and Dale and Thelma Taggart.
Survivors include her sons: Douglas and Joyce Taggart of Audubon, IA and Dean and Lori Taggart of Pleasant Hill, IA; her grandchildren: Dina and Darren Gibbons of Des Moines, IA; Ryan Taggart of West Des Moines, IA; Jill Taggart and Jennifer Taggart, both of Des Moines, IA; her great-grandchildren: Ellis and Leighton Gibbons, both of Des Moines; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Monday evening at 6:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
