Florabelle Hays

FloraBelle Hays, age 89, of Osceola, Nebraska passed away September 10, 2009, at Annie Jeffrey County Memorial Health Center.
FloraBelle Hays was born June 9, 1920 to Albert P. Petersen and Ida Ruth Meyer Petersen. Florie attended Bintner and Green schools in Exira Township. She graduated from Exira High School with the class of 1937. Florie did housework and cared for small children. She also clerked at the P.A. Stone General Store in Exira until 1940. She is a member of the Exira Christian Church where she served as a deaconess, board member, Sunday school teacher, CWF president and secretary. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Greeley Township Sunshine Helpers Club. Florie was also employed by Exira Community Schools as a cook/lunchroom worker from 1975 to 1991.
On May 12, 1940 she was united in marriage to Stewart Albertis Hays. To this union three children were born.
Florie and Stewart lived on a farm northeast of Exira until 1991, when they moved to Atlantic. On March 1, 2009, they moved to Osceola, Nebraska.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son Dennis Hays; her grandson Brian Hays; two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband Stewart Hays of Osceola, Nebraska; her son David and wife Shirley Hays of Dayton, Iowa; her daughter Becky and husband Charles Hays of Osceola, Nebraska; her daughter-in-law Denise Hays of Urbandale, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; her sister Maxine Hays of Exira, Iowa; her brother LeRoy Petersen of Winchester, Kentucky; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
