Gail Marsha Bald, the daughter of Hazen Lloyd and Helen Katherine (Huncosky) Raettig, was born March 15, 1939, in Iron River, Michigan and died March 6, 2014, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 21 days. Gail was baptized as a teenager at the Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa. She attended Boone Community Schools in Boone, Iowa graduating with the High School Class of 1958. She then worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Des Moines, Iowa for a short time. On May 13, 1959 she was united in marriage to Darrell Duane Bald at the church in Panora, Iowa. Four children: Cindy, Guy, Linda, and Rick were born to this union. They lived in several communities including Hamlin and Kimballton before they settled in Audubon. Gail was a homemaker while the children were young, then she was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa for many years. During this time she also babysat for other families. In the late 1980’s she retired due to health reasons. Gail and Darrell enjoyed camping and fishing. They also enjoyed watching the children and grandchildren participate in the many sports they were involved in. Darrell died August 29, 2007. Gail enjoyed her home then moved to the Exira Care Center in November of 2013. Gail was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa and enjoyed attending the Bible Studies. Gail was preceded in death by her husband Darrell D. Bald; her parents; her step father Guy Drollinger; and her brother-in-law Ron Shadle. Survivors include her children Cindy and husband Charles Bell of Dows, Iowa; Guy Bald of Atlantic, Iowa; Linda and husband Dan Anthofer of Audubon, Iowa; and Rick and wife Roylene Bald of Audubon; her grandchildren: Amanda and husband Darin Wicker of Des Moines, Iowa; Megan and husband Alan Vangundy of Desoto, Iowa; Hannah Anthofer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Owen Anthofer of Audubon; Matthew and wife Amanda Bell of Dows; Christopher and wife Crystal Bell of Dows; Justin Bald of Des Moines; Shaun and wife Kristen Buck of Omaha, Nebraska; Mandy Rath of Audubon; Jeremy Bald and fiancé Lindsey Jackson of Des Moines; Michael and wife Beth Bald of Council Bluffs; her 13 great grandchildren: Alyssa, Logan, Audrey, and Hailey Bell; Alexa Andrews; Hector and Laney Munoz all of Dows; Amelia Wicker of Des Moines; Trindon Pallaya of Council Bluffs; Charleigh Anthofer of Audubon; Addison Buck of Omaha; Ellen Rath of Audubon; Claire Bald of Council Bluffs; her sisters: Judy and husband Gale Morris of Dayton, Ohio; and Gerry Shadle of Sarasota, Florida; nieces; nephews other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Saturday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
