Galen Lynn Hansen

Galen Lynn Hansen, the son of Edwin Mathias and Anna Christina (Lange) Hansen, was born March 15, 1944, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa and died May 5, 2017, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 20 days.
Galen was baptized at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa. He attended rural schools then graduated from the Elk Horn High School with the Class of 1962. Galen worked for a short time then enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his tour of duty he was a motor vehicle operator. He served states side for several years and also served in Thailand, Japan, and Korea. In April of 1964, he was united in marriage Sharon Baker. Three sons Terry, Gary, and Larry were born to this union. Later in 1971 they went their separate ways. Galen was honorably discharged on November 30, 1971, and returned to the Exira area. Galen drove truck for several years. In December of 1973, he was married to Marjorie Christensen. One son Ryan L. Hansen was born to this union. Galen continued to drive until July of 1976 when he started working for American Buildings in Atlantic, Iowa. In 1987, Galen quit working construction and purchased his own truck. He operated Hansen Hauling where he hauled rock, lime, sand and dirt for customers. Later he drove a dairy truck for Delbert Anderson from Atlantic, Iowa to the AE Dairy processing plant in Des Moines, Iowa until June 30, 2015 when he was forced to retire due to his failing health. Galen was diagnosed with Idyllic Pulmonary Fibrosis an incurable condition and was on oxygen the past two and a half years. He lived at home then moved to the Salem Lutheran Home a day and a half before he died.
Galen enjoyed camping and fishing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and riding motorcycles.
Preceding him in death was an infant son Gary Hansen; his parents; his sisters Cordell and husband Robert Poldberg and Marlys Hansen; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Marilyn Christensen, Dorothy Lebeck, Dallas Christensen, Erma Jensen, and James Rush.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie Hansen of Exira, Iowa; his sons Terry and wife LaDonna Hansen of Cherokee, Iowa, Larry Hansen of Denison, Iowa, and Ryan Hansen and special friend Sandy of Exira, Iowa; his grandchildren Devin Hansen and Gary Hansen both of Clear Lake, Iowa. Amber Hansen of Dunlap, Iowa, Summer Hansen of Sac City, Iowa, Austin Hansen of Denison, Iowa, Erin Hansen and Justin Hansen both of Charter Oak, Iowa, and Peyton Hansen of Britt, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert Christensen of Cherokee, Iowa, Don Lebeck of Audubon, Iowa, Robert and wife Pat Jensen of Omaha, Arkansas, Doris Christensen of Audubon, Iowa, Lois Pfeiffer of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Violet Rush of Atlantic, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Following cremation, there will be a private family interment of the cremains at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery by Van Meter, Iowa.
