Marjorie Lois Knudsen, the daughter of Raymond Jess and Lillian (Jensen) Roberts, was born July 5, 1923, at her parents’ home in Audubon, Iowa and died December 23, 2017, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 18 days.
Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was confirmed as an adult at the Hamlin Lutheran Church and later became a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1942.
On November 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Lenard Knudsen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. They were blessed with four daughters Sally, Judy, Patty Lou, and Cheryl. They farmed for several years in Shelby County and Audubon County. They made their home on the Nick Jensen farm where they grew row crops and raised livestock for over 33 years. Besides helping on the farm, Marjorie was employed with the Audubon Community Schools as a cook. Lenard died in 1995 and Marjorie moved into Audubon. In 1996 Marjorie retired from the School after being employed there for over 30 years.
Marjorie was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She loved to fish, play cards, and bowl. She enjoyed making quilts and embroidering. Marjorie enjoyed being outdoors taking care of her lawn and flower garden. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Good Neighbor Center and helping at the congregate meal site.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lenard Knudsen; her daughter Patty Lou Knudsen; her parents; her brother Robert Roberts; her step-father Oscar Gaskill; her sisters-in-law and husbands Elaine and Ernest Christensen, and Ilamae and Edward Ahrendsen; her brother-in-law Frank Knudsen; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Edward and Laura Knudsen.
Survivors include her daughters and husbands Sally and Jo Porsch, Judy and Bob Ruhs, and Cheryl and Dennis Hansen all of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren and spouses Angie and Terry Siedelmann of Audubon, Joel and Sherry Porsch of Forsyth, Missouri, Tracy and John Burns of Crescent, Iowa, Travis and Colleen Porsch of Audubon, Jere and Mick Merrill of Mason City, Iowa, Bobbi Jo and John Hoffmann of Buford, Georgia, Adam and Michelle Hansen and Tonya Vetter and Adam Kaiser all of Audubon; her great grandchildren Nicholas and Laura Siedelmann of Linden, Iowa, Brandy and Chris Miller of Adel, Iowa, Ashley Porsch and Brian Lester of Indianola, Iowa, Katie Porsch and Michael Leinen of Portsmouth, Iowa, Kasey and Greg Hawkins of Audubon, Samantha and Brett Dennis of Crescent, Iowa, Cole Burns and Kinzie of Atkins, Iowa, Jessica and James Fischer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jerod and Brooke Burns of Brooklyn, Iowa, Justin and Abby Burns of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Derek Porsch, Jordan Porsch both of Audubon, Rachel and Mason Lunning of Shakopee, Minnesota, Ryan and Katie Lorentzen of Maplewood, Minnesota, Erin Lorentzen and special friend Charles both of Seattle, Washington, Hannah Hoffmann of Athens, Georgia, Cassie and Harrison Hoffman of Buford, Collin Hansen, and Peyton Kaiser all of Audubon; her great-great grandchildren Addison Siedelmann, Natalie Lewis, Noah Lewis, Addy Fischer, Beau Burns, Ethan Burns, Mya Burns, Makenna Burns, Madison Burns, Maxwell Lunning, and Preston Lester; her sisters-in-law Norma Roberts of Las Vegas, Nevada, Deloris Knudsen of Audubon, and Marjorie Knudsen of Westchester, Ohio, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Annette Kruse on Wednesday afternoon December 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Joel Porsch, Travis Porsch, Terry Siedelmann, John Burns, Mick Merrill, John Hoffmann, and Adam Hansen. The family will meet with friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
