Merrilyn Olsen, the daughter of F.M. and Helen Voss Northup, was born March 27, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa and died May 5, 2010, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 18 days.
Merrilyn was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Audubon. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1951. She attended nursing school for a short time then was employed by the telephone company.
On November 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Olsen at the Methodist Church in Audubon. Three children: Vickie, Debbie, and Mike were born to this union. Merrilyn continued to work for the telephone company for a short time, then became a home maker to raise their children and help Kenneth farm. They farmed east of Audubon then purchased a farm southeast of Audubon. They operated the farm until they retired and moved into Audubon in January of 1995.
Merrilyn was an active member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She was a member of the Ladies Circle, taught Sunday School and taught Bible School during the summers. Merrilyn belonged to several Neighborhood Clubs and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She belonged to the Audubon County Cattlemens Association and was a member of the Audubon County Pork Producers. Merrilyn was a very caring person enjoying her family and friends and was always putting their needs before her own.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister-in-law: Geraldine and husband Don Biederman.
Survivors include her husband: Kenneth Olsen of Audubon, Iowa; her children: Vickie and husband Dave Albers of Audubon, Debbie and husband Marshall Brasel of Lander, Wyoming, Mike and wife Lida Olsen of Sumner, Iowa; her grandchildren: Cody Albers of Audubon, Tara and husband Andy Skiba and Adam and wife Shaylynn Brasel all of Lander, Jodi Olsen and Katie Olsen both of Waterloo, Iowa, Jason Olsen of Ames, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Hailey Skiba and Emily Skiba both of Lander; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Saturday, May 8, 2010, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Lystig on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
