Michael Mehlmann

Michael William Mehlmann was born March 24, 1948, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Donald William and Shirley T. (Rasmussen) Mehlmann and passed away May 30, 2013, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mike was a graduate of the Anita High School with the class of 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army from December 21, 1967, until his honorable discharge on September 22, 1970.


He married Rose Marie Belanger September 18, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike worked in farming and for the Cass County Secondary Roads Department. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita and the Anita American Legion.

Mike was never in a hurry, living life at his own pace, slow and easy. He enjoyed Sunday drives on the back roads and around Lake Anita. He also enjoyed being outdoors, tinkering in the yard and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Shirley Mehlmann, and his brother, Jon Michael Mehlmann.

Surviving Mike are his wife, Rose Mehlmann of Anita; his sons, Jonathan (Amy) Mehlmann of Marlborough, MA, William (Joanna) Goodman of Killeen, TX and Robert Goodman of Anita; his grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Mehlmann of Marlborough, MA and Natalia and Kayley Goodman of Killeen, TX; his brother, Jerry (Sandy) Mehlmann of Las Vegas, NV; his sisters, Margaret Mehlmann of Indianola, IA and Melissa (Mike) Johnson of Anita, IA.


Visitation with family will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, also at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Anita.

Family will greet friends at a luncheon in the Anita Community Center following the committal service.
