Nadine Lucille Christensen

February 18, 1939 — July 12, 2020

Nadine Lucille Olson Christensen, the daughter of V. Lynn and Wilma (Seastrom) Olson, was born February 18, 1939, at her parents’ home in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died July 12, 2020, at her home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 14 days.

Nadine was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church in Viola Center. She attended rural schools then graduated from the Viola Consolidated High School with the Class of 1957. During high school, Nadine was a member of the band and chorus. She played basketball and was a member of 4-H and the honor society. Following graduation Nadine was employed as a secretary. She taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was the pianist at Mt. Zion EUB Church.

On September 15, 1957, she was united in marriage to Leroy Harold Christensen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Douglas Leroy, Jana Sue, and Julie Ann. They rented and operated two farms for several years, then in 1970, purchased Leroy parents’ farm east of Audubon. During this time not only did Nadine work hand in hand with Leroy raising livestock and growing row crops, but she also spent many hours raising their children. Later, in 1988, when the children were grown, she attended Des Moines Area Community College at the Carroll, Iowa campus and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nadine then worked in area nursing facilities. Leroy died on February 3, 2008, and Nadine continued to reside in her home in Audubon.

Nadine was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She was a member of the Women of the Word and the evangelism committee, was a circle member, sang in the choir, and attended several Bible study groups. Nadine also taught Sunday school and Bible school and volunteered in many other church activities. She was a 4-H leader for many years, was a member of the Audubon County Extension and the Lions Club, and belonged to several neighborhood clubs. Nadine was an avid seamstress and sewed for her family and other friends. She loved to cook, bake, and quilt. But most of all she enjoyed being with her family.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Leroy H. Christensen; her daughter, Julie Ann Christensen; her parents, V. Lynn and Wilma Olson; her brothers, Rick Alan Olsen and Willis Lynn Olson; her brothers-in-law, Jerry Deist and Jack Weighton; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Marie Christensen.
