Violet Evaline Poulsen, the daughter of Chris and Dorothy Lauridsen Johnson, was born December 9, 1912, on her parents farm in Audubon County, Iowa and died October 6, 2008, at the Friendship Home in Audubon at the age of 95 years, 9 months, and 27 days.
Violet was baptized and confirmed June 28, 1933 at the Exira Lutheran Church Parsonage in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school in Audubon County, then did housekeeping, and later was employed as a waitress in Audubon.
On June 28, 1933, she was united in marriage to Frosig Poulsen at the Exira Lutheran Church Parsonage. Two children Roger and Joan were born to this union. They operated several farms west of Exira and later purchased land west of Exira. They operated a livestock and grain farm until they sold the land and moved to Audubon in 1963. Violet was employed at the Audubon Produce and at the meat locker in Audubon. Frosig died October 19, 1980. She continued to work until she retired in the early 1990s.
Violet enjoyed her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to visit and play cards. In June of 1997 she sold her home and moved to the Friendship Village in Audubon. She moved to the Friendship Home on October 1, 2008. She was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon and was involved in the church groups.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her son; Roger Poulsen; her parents; her brother Milo and wife Christina Johnson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Andersen; Arthur Andersen; George and wife Dagmar Paulsen, and Martha and husband Juel Miller.
Survivors include her daughter: Joan and Thomas Nielsen ; her daughter-in-law: Sharon and Merlin Vonesh, all of Audubon; her grandchildren: Alan Poulsen of Audubon; Roger and Michelle Poulsen of Atlantic, IA; Carla and Jeff Swank of Spencer, IA; Jeffrey and Trisha Nielsen of Audubon; her step-grandchildren: Mary Maier of LeMars, IA; Barbi and Chris Danner of Templeton, IA; her great-grandchildren: Christopher Poulsen of Colorado Springs, CO; Peter Poulsen of Atlantic; Michael Swank and Marisa Swank, both of Spencer; Adrianne Nielsen, Jayden Nielsen, and Katelyn Nielsen, all of Audubon; her step-great-grandchildren: Samantha Wetter and Chance Wetter, both of Orange City, IA; Brooklyn Danner and Payton Danner, both of Templeton, IA; her sisters: Erma Andersen of Collinsville, OK and Vera Andersen of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening at 7:00 at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martin on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, IA.
