Agnes Lindblom Johnson was born on a farm between Anita and Wiota on August 16, 1909, the daughter of Oscar and Flossie (Hill) Lindblom, and passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.
When Agnes was two years old, her parents moved with her and her older bother, Glen, to Anita. Agnes attended school in Anita graduating with the class of 1927. She worked for a time at Jensen's grocery and kept house for her grandfather, Jake Hill, and her uncle, Burt Hill. After several years, she went to work for Bob Howard and his wife as a nanny for their daughter, Bobbie Jean.
Agnes married Glenn R. Johnson of Anita on March 12, 1939, and they moved to Atlantic to setup housekeeping. After living in LeMars and Des Moines, they moved to Chariton, where their daughter, Marjorie, and son, Larry, were born. After living and working in Chariton, Ames, Boone and Indianola, Glenn and Agnes retired to Anita and lived at 608 Chestnut. They made frequent trips to the Rio Grande Valley in the winters in their little Air Stream trailer and enjoyed the chance to do a little fishing in the warmth of Texas.
Glenn passed away in 1988 and Agnes continued to live in the yellow house on Chestnut and participated in many activities in Anita. She was active in Church Circle, Happy Helpers and Quilting Club at United Methodist Church, Anita Senior Center and Anita Garden Club.
In January 2004, Agnes suffered a stroke and became a resident of Colonial Manor where she enjoyed the social activities and visiting with old friends.
She was absolutely the best mother, grandmother or friend anyone could ever want. Her beef and noodles were the highlight of family dinners and no one could beat her black raspberry pie. She spoiled everyone she loved and she loved everyone she knew.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Chris) Elhardt of Houston, Texas; her son, Larry (Sue) Johnson Indianola, Iowa; her grandchildren, Summer (Robert) Rehkemper of Waukee, Iowa, Bradley Johnson of New Virginia, Iowa, and Tiffany (Chris) Yessayan of Westlake, Ohio; her great-grandchildren, Drake Rehkemper of Waukee, IA and Logan and Ariana Yessayan of Westlake, Ohio; her sisters, Marie Johnson of Fort Dodge, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Evangeline Meyers of Amarillo, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Glenn R. Johnson; her parents, Oscar and Flossie Lindblom; her brothers, Glen Lindblom of Anita and Carl Lindblom of Iowa City; and two sisters, Marjorie and Mary Elizabeth, who died in infancy.
