Alan Eugene Haskins

Alan Eugene Haskins, the son of Dallas and Marie (Simonsen) Haskins, was born July 18, 1944, at his parents’ home in Audubon, Iowa and died June 8, 2014, at his home in Audubon at the age of 69 years, 10 months, and 20 days. Alan was baptized and confirmed at the First Methodist Church in Audubon. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1962. He then drove escort for D.R. Burgher Trucking for a short time. On May 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Anderson at the Ross Evangelical Church in Ross, Iowa. Two children Troy and Shelly were born to this union. Alan and JoAnn moved to Harlan, Iowa where Alan was employed at the feed mill for a short time. They returned to Audubon and Alan worked at Louie’s Standard and then at the Farmer’s Produce in Audubon for several years. He started working at Audubon Lumber later becoming the manager, a position he maintained until he retired in 2010 after being employed there for 39 years. During retirement Alan and JoAnn enjoyed traveling to South Dakota, Cape Cod, and Hawaii. Alan was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, making many unique wood projects. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan but above all was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan and collected many Earnhardt memorabilia. He enjoyed gardening and grew the most delicious tomatoes and loved “tinkering” around in his garage. Alan was preceded in death by his son Troy Alan Haskins; his parents; his sisters Barb Fairchild, Sandra and husband Lee Chambers; his sister-in-law Glenda Haskins; his brothers-in-law Lynn Peterson, Larry Anderson, and Jeff Knight; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Oral and Lorraine Anderson; and his nephew Matthew Borkowski. Survivors include his wife JoAnn Haskins of Audubon, Iowa; his daughter Shelly and husband Mike Jensen of Newell, Iowa; his grandchildren Lindsay Jensen and fiancé Jason Parker and Joshua Jensen and special friend Sarah Kelly all of Newell, Iowa; his brothers and sisters Dallas Haskins of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Jackie Peterson of Harlan, Iowa, Mike and wife Nancy Haskins of Florence, Kentucky, Sherri Payne of Trenton, South Carolina, and Kelly Fairchild of Harlan, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jan and husband LaVerne Jensen of Panora, Iowa, Delores Knight of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Beverly Anderson and husband Terri Richter of Carroll, Iowa, James and wife Joy Anderson of Johnston, Iowa, and Nancy and husband Dwight Huffman of Carroll, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
