Alan Stephenson

Alan Dean Stephenson, 54, of Adair, Iowa, formerly of El Paso, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa.


He was born March 13, 1957, to Rex and Marilyn (Nielsen) Stephenson at the Greenfield County Hospital. He graduated from the Adair-Casey High School and then attended Southwestern Community College in Creston for two years.


Alan was a skilled drafter and worked as a draftsman for two years in Omaha, Nebraska, eight years in Kansas City, Missouri, and eight years in El Paso, Illinois for American Builders. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, IA, where he was baptized on April 14, 1957 and confirmed on April 4, 1971. Alan loved his work, fixing things at home and playing cards. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and his grandchildren.


Alan is survived by his sons, Staff Sergeant Chad Stephenson and his wife Traci and their children Cadence, Jillian and Cain all of Adair, IA and Scott Stephenson of El Paso, IL; his mother, Marilyn Stephenson of Adair, IA; his sister, Janet (John) Della Vedova of Norwalk, IA, his nephew and niece, Alex Jacobsen and Jessica Jacobsen of Norwalk, IA; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.


Alan was preceded in death by his father, Rex Stephenson, his brother, Ronald Stephenson; and his grandparents, Avery and Erma Stephenson and Niels and Tena Nielsen


A funeral service will be held Friday, July 1, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. He may be viewed from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, IA. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Adair, IA.


The family invites everyone to a luncheon at the church following the burial.
