Albert E. Eilts, 94, of Atlantic, Iowa, and formerly of Anita, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Albert Ervin Eilts was born August 28, 1914, in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Henry William and Emilie Louise Augusta Anna (Brauer) Eilts. He attended country school in Cass County.
On May 16, 1940, he was united in marriage to Velma La Rue Maas. Three daughters were born to this union. Velma passed away December 16, 1969.
Albert farmed in Cass County until 1952 when he moved to Decatur County. After retiring to Cass County in 1974, Albert was employed as a mechanic for McCunn Implement in Massena.
On August 9, 1975, he married Dorothy Opal (Suplee) Sorensen. Dorothy passed away June 26, 2002.
Albert was a member of Trinity Christian Church in Bridgewater, Iowa.
Albert was known for his mechanical ability and inventive mind. He delighted in helping family and friends with projects and problems.
Albert is survived by his daughters, Juliann (Eugene) Topolewski of Atlantic, Iowa, Nancy Eilts of Atlantic, Iowa, and Carolyn (Michael) Easton of Burnsville, Minnesota; his step-son, Jerry (Ramona) Sorensen of Anita, Iowa; his grandchildren, Theodore (Kimberly Love) Topolewski of Silver Spring, Maryland, Gina Topolewski of Chicago, Illinois, Jennifer Easton of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Gretchen Easton of Pasadena, California; his great-grandson, Theodore Flint Topolewski of Silver Spring, Maryland; his step-grandchildren, Sterling (Mary Helen) Sorensen of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Audrey (Kelly) Cullen of Flagstaff, Arizona; his step-great-grandchildren, April, Michael and Andrew Sorensen of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Caitlan and Samuel Cullen of Flagstaff, Arizona; his brothers, Arnold Eilts of Ft. Myers, Florida, Ervin (Mary) Eilts of Crescent, Iowa, and Lawrence (Norma) Eilts of Cumberland, Iowa; his sister, Aletha (Earl) Miller of Wiota, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Velma and Dorothy; his sister, Esther Gillam; and his step-granddaughter, Tessa Maxine Glassford.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2009, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Massena Center Cemetery, north of Massena, Iowa.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2009, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., also at Hockenberry's in Anita.
The family suggests memorials to Iowa Hospice in Albert's memory.
