Albert Schnackel

Albert Henry Schnackel, 97, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab.

Albert was born October 7, 1917, near Hancock, Iowa, to Harvey F. and Emily E. (Sayre) Schnackel. He graduated from Hancock High School in 1936. On June 4, 1943, he married Phyllis Leona Giese at the First Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska.

Albert farmed a few years near Hancock and Marne plus many years south of Walnut. He lived nearly 45 years in Atlantic where he was a truck driver. Albert worked planting and harvesting for local farmers until 2004. He retired from truck driving then worked as a custodian at the First United Methodist Church for 2 1/2 years.

He had been a member of the Methodist Churches in Hancock, Marne and Atlantic and was a Mason since 1942 in Avoca then Marne. He was a Past Master of the Marne lodge, member of the Eastern Star, and active in Shrine and Lions Club. He volunteered for the Cass County Hospital Auxiliary and at the Atlantic Nursing Home.

Preceding Albert in death were his parents and a teenage sister, Iroline, and granddaughter, Shannon (Schnackel) Autler.

Those surviving Albert are his wife of 72 years, Phyllis Schnackel of Atlantic, IA; sons, Wayne (Lee Lictenwalter) Schnackel of Durham, NC, John (Lyla) Schnackel of Ft. Collins, CO, Philip Schnackel of Council Bluffs, IA, Dick (Lisa) Schnackel of Crescent, IA; daughters, Linda Petersen of Exira, IA and Marjorie (Terry) Frisbie of Walnut, IA; grandchildren, Sarah (Foster) Hunt of Durham, NC, Michael (Pam) Petersen of Corwith, IA and their children, Ryan White, RJ White, Jon White and their families; Amy (James) Klemish of Adair, IA, Chad Schnackel of Denver, CO, Eric (Cassie) Schnackel and their children, Anissa and Rafe of Council Bluffs, IA, Ryan Schnackel of Iowa City, IA, Todd Schnackel of Council Bluffs, IA, Emily Frisbie (William) Mathis of Denver, CO, Rebecca Frisbie, Victoria (Ryan) Means and Luke Frisbie all of Walnut, IA, Carl and Caye Schnackel of Crescent, IA; and Albert's brother, Verne (Joanne) Schnackel and their family from Clancy, MT.

Visitation with family will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa, followed by a Masonic service at 10:30 a.m.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015, also at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. A private family interment will take place at a later time.
