Albert Thomas Jr.

Albert "Bud" Thomas, Jr., longtime Cass County farmer, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

Albert "Bud" Thomas, Jr., was born August 4, 1918 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Albert George and Retta R. (Kraft) Thomas.

He attended schools in the Council Bluffs area.

The family farmed near Council Bluffs and when Bud was a young teenager, they moved to a farm north of Atlantic and he spent the remainder of his farming career in Cass County. He was among the first farmers to use rubber wheeled tractors, and to practice terrace farming.
On February 21, 1940, Bud married Gladys Lorena Jepsen in the St. Paul's Danish Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Bud was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis and his wife, Mary Dee of Atlantic, Iowa, Roger Thomas, also of Atlantic, Iowa; granddaughters, Amy Thomas of Chicago, Illinois, Lara Nothwehr and her husband, Todd of Clarinda, Iowa, Christina Andersen and her husband, Dennis of Nevada, Iowa; his great-grandson, Cole Nothwehr of Clarinda, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Albert G. and Retta R. (Kraft) Thomas; his wife, Gladys L. Thomas on December 8, 2002; his son, Loren Thomas on July 25, 2002; and four sisters, Marilyn Thomas, Mary Clare Cox, Rosalee Carter, and Irene Carder.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2007 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Reverends Dennis and Sally Meyer, officiating.

Public Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, with the family present to greet their friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with fellowship and lunch to follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.
The family is suggesting that memorials go to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Atlantic, Iowa, in Bud's memory and honor.
