Aleeta M (Brown) Bice, age 92 of Kimballton, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Unity Point-Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. She was born on January 24, 1930, in Humboldt, IA to Emma Christina (Thompson) Brown and Paul Thorvald Brown. Aleeta attended Humboldt High School where she was in the school band and played the trombone. She graduated in 1948.
On October 5, 1948, Aleeta was united in marriage to Glenn Bice. They lived on the family farm in Ogden, Iowa and had two sons: Kent Michael Bice in 1952 and Kevin LaVerne Bice in 1954. They all moved to Tampa, Florida in 1957. Their daughter Karen Kay Bice was born in 1960 during hurricane Donna.
Aleeta worked at Turners Dairy in Tampa for several years in the 1960’s. She returned to college in the late 1970’s and attended Hillsborough Community College. She graduated with her degree in medical transcription and worked in that field until after she was 80 years old. Aleeta moved to Arizona in 1978 where she and Glenn lived until after his death. At this time, she returned to Florida to be close to her children and grandchildren. Aleeta returned to Kimballton, Iowa in 2012.
Aleeta made lifelong friends with everyone she met. She was a member in the Red Hat Ladies in Florida and Iowa. Aleeta loved to travel. She saw many places, including Denmark, England, Bermuda, Canada, Hawaii, and numerous roads trips along the eastern and western coasts of the United States, South Dakota, Utah, and the Ozarks. Aleeta enjoyed going to the theatre and attended Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar to name a few. Aleeta had a daily routine and wanted to watch her “stories” uninterrupted. She was always active and busy. She was an avid reader and would read several books within a week. Aleeta took great comfort in her religious convictions and said her prayers every night. She leaves behind a large, loving group of family and friends. She is loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Glenn L. Bice in 1986; and her brother, Paul Brown. Aleeta is survived by: her sons, Kent Bice of Winter Haven, FL and Kevin (Debbie) Bice of Springhill, FL; a daughter, Karen Baggett of Kimballton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa with Pastor Keith Menter officiating. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 pm till 7 pm at the church on Friday, March 25, 2022. Burial will take place at 11 am, Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. Memorials can be made to the Elk Horn Public Library and may be mailed or left at the funeral home. The staff at Schmidt Family Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
