Naomi Alene Nancarrow, the daughter of Ralph H. and Nellie M. Meyer Tibben was born November 23, 1916 at her parents’ home east of Exira, Iowa and died May 23, 2013, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 96 years and 6 months. Alene was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. She attended rural school Audubon Township #2 and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1933. Alene then taught school for a number of years. On May 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to James A. Nancarrow at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. Three children: Judith Ann, Karen Sue, and Thomas James were born to this union. They operated a farm east of Exira, Iowa for seven years before moving to Casper, Wyoming where Jim worked in the oil fields. Two years later they returned to the Exira area where they operated Alene’s family farm. She helped Jim farm, raised chickens, and always had a large vegetable garden. She was then later employed by the Exira Community Schools as the head cook for 12 years and was your “friendly” neighborhood Avon lady for many years. In 1992, Jim and Alene retired and moved into Exira. Jim died December 14, 2003. Alene enjoyed her home in Exira until she moved to the Exira Care Center in August 2010. Alene was a lifelong member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira where she served as deaconess, a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and held many offices. Alene was a 50 year member of the Exodus Chapter 313 OES of Exira and was a member of the neighborhood Cu-He-Lo Club. Alene was preceded in death by her husband James A. Nancarrow; her parents; her brothers: Ralph Henry Tibben and Beryl Melvin (Buster) Tibben. Survivors include her children: Judith Ann and husband David Meyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Karen Sue and husband Ronald Beckman of Omaha, Nebraska; Thomas James Nancarrow and significant other Mimi Bartley both of Indianola, Iowa; her grandchildren: Gina and husband Tony Will of Arlington Heights, Illinois; Scott and wife Nikki Lund of Loveland, Colorado; Bradley Beckman of Ralston, Nebraska; Eric and wife Jennifer Beckman of Omaha, Nebraska; Hilary Nancarrow-Clatt and husband Trevor of Indianola, Iowa; Ashley and husband Lance Phillips of West Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Taylor, Haley, and Andrea Will all of Arlington Heights; Dillion and Tyler Lund both of Loveland; Madison Beckman of Odenville, Alabama; Joelle Beckman of Omaha; Daxson, Brinkley, and Kemper Clatt all of Indianola; Drake and Gage Phillips both of West Des Moines; her nephew Stephen and wife Susan Nancarrow of Exira, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
