Alfred Jacob Egger was born in Walnut Township, Adair County, Iowa, November 1, 1924, the son of Edward Dewey and Rebecca R. (Beattie) Egger. He passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa.
He lived his entire life in Adair County, attending school in Menlo. In February of 1948 Alfred married Pauline Corrigan in Fontanelle, Iowa. He farmed and worked as a laborer for Monarch Windows for many years, but his true passion was farming.
Alfred loved his family, especially his granddaughters. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge, experiences, time and a pot of coffee with neighbors and friends, touching many lives along the way. Alfred was a proud Navy veteran of World War II and was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, recently receiving his 34 year pin.
Alfred is survived by his daughter, Beverly Erskine and her husband, Scott of Clive; his son, Ronald Egger of Nebraska; his granddaughters, Natalie Frank and her husband, Adam of Norwalk and Megan Erskine and her friend Nihad Avdic of Clive; his cousins, Laverne (Gene) Madsen of Winterset, Bonell (Dawayne) Kinnetz of Stuart, Ann Boss of Stuart and Mary Jo (Bernard) Hall of Stuart; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean Payton of Lakeland, Florida, Maxine (Don) Ludwig of Urbandale, Glen (Dorothy) Corrigan of Perry and Roger (Marilyn) Corrigan of Des Moines; numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rebecca Egger; his wife, Pauline Egger; his son, Rodney Egger; his sister, Fern Barber; and his brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, with the visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Casey. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.
