Alice Lorraine Kyndesen, the daughter of Chris and Maren (Miah) Petersen Back, was born September 12, 1926, at her parent’s home in Exira Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died September 4, 2011, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Alice was baptized October 17, 1926, by Pastor P.C. Jensen and confirmed March 31, 1940, by Rev. H. L. Jensen at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school Oakfield #1 “Pleasant Ridge” then graduated from the Exira High School; with the Class of 1944. Alice went to the Western Union School and then worked in Detroit, Michigan for Western Union for one year. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she graduated with a Teaching Certificate for Kindergarten and the primary grades. Alice taught 3rd and 4th grade for the Exira Community Schools in Exira. On May 29, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leo Marvin Kyndesen at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. Three children Paul Phillip, Timothy Leo, and Luann Kay were born to this union. Alice was a home maker and helped Marvin operate their farm which was located south of Littlefield Lake where they grew grain and raised livestock. They retired from farming in 1992. Marvin died November 29, 2007. Alice continued to live on the farm until moving into Exira in 2008. Alice was a life long member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was active in the church circle. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the Merry Meeters Club. She enjoyed making quilts and always had large flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid reader. But most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband L. Marvin Kyndesen; her parents; and her brothers-in-law Hal Haner and Emmert Schmidt. Survivors include her children Paul and wife Jennifer Kyndesen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tim and wife Shawn Kyndesen of Prairie Village, Kansas, Luann Kyndesen and special friend Denny Becker both of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Chandra and husband Jason Ludlow of Omaha, Nebraska, Shaun and wife Laura Kyndesen of Council Bluffs, Stacey and husband Mike Blakeman of Lawrence, Kansas, and Kelly Kyndesen of McPherson, Kansas; her great grandchildren Marne Kyndesen and Miller Kyndesen both of Council Bluffs; her sister Catherine Schmidt of Audubon, Iowa; her brother Don and wife Julien Back of Eagle Grove, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church Exira, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
