Andrew Fredrickson

Andrew “Andy” Lynn Fredrickson, 66, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at his home.

Andy was born July 2, 1950, to Anders and Doris (Moree) Fredrickson in Red Oak, Iowa.

He moved with his family when he was seven years old to Atlantic, Iowa. He attended Atlantic Community Schools and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1968. On October 9, 1971, Andy was united in marriage to Nancy Gearheart at the First Baptist Church in Atlantic.

He worked for a few years for Burk Brothers Steel Erectors and Iowa Department of Transportation. Andy then went to work at Atlantic Municipal Utilities in Atlantic and remained there for over 36 years before retiring in 2013. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, First Baptist Church and Nishna Hills Golf Club all in Atlantic. He also served nearly 30 years on the Atlantic Fire Department.

Andy had a few pleasures in life such as going fishing with his friend, Charlie Hanson, watching his favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers, spending time with his special friends at The Elbow Room, and taking trips with Nancy to Mexico 15 years in a row. Yet there can be no hiding that the main love of his life was his grandson, Aiden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anders and Doris Fredrickson; his father-in-law, Floyd Gearheart; and his brother-in-law, Larry Leeson.

Andy is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Nancy Fredrickson; his son, Thomas Fredrickson; and his grandson, Aiden Fredrickson, all of Atlantic, IA; his mother-in-law, Jean Gearheart of Atlantic, IA; his sisters, Janele Leeson of Aiken, SC and Pamela (Gary) Lundberg of Aurora, CO; his brothers-in-law, Rob (Shannon) Gearheart, Dave (Lori) Gearheart all of Atlantic, IA and Tim Gearheart of Gulfport, MS: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Andy’s family has honored his wishes to be cremated, however, there will be two gatherings to celebrate Andy. One will be the “going away” party that Andy planned at the Elbow Room from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017. The second one will be the celebration of his life that Nancy is planning at the Nishna Hills Golf Club from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, all in Atlantic, Iowa.
