Ann Nielsen, the daughter of Dale and Hertha (Christensen) Levis, was born March 10, 1948, in Carroll, Iowa and died August 4, 2016, at her home in Waverly, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
Ann was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1966. Ann studied at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa for a year then transferred to the University of Iowa graduating with a Bachelor of Art degree in Education in 1970.
On April 13, 1969, she was united in marriage to Steven Nielsen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters Jensine and Emily. In 1972 they moved to Muscatine, Iowa where Ann was employed by the Muscatine Public Schools and taught English and Drama for one year. Later in 1972 they moved to Stuart, Iowa and opened their own business Steve’s Uptown Gas. Ann helped Steve operate the business and also worked for the Stuart Newspaper in Ad sales. In 1974 they moved to Audubon, Iowa. Ann was employed at the Audubon, Elk Horn and Exira Public Schools where she taught English and Drama for several years. She then worked for Sklenar Publishing before working for the Audubon Chamber of Commerce. They moved to Marshall, Minnesota in 1986 where Ann worked for the Chamber of Commerce for a short time. In 1989 they moved to Waverly, Iowa and Ann was the Director of the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. Ann became a realtor in 1993 and was Co-Owner of Keystone Home Builders where she worked until she retired in 2013.
Ann was a past member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, a member of Butler-Bremer, Chickasaw Board of Realtors, and Waverly Ambassador’s Club. Her enjoyments included camping and anything artsy. But what Ann enjoyed most was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by: her parents; her father-in-law, Martin Nielsen; her brother-in-law, Gordon Lange; and her niece, Elizabeth Rigler.
Ann is survived by; her loving husband, Steven Nielsen of Waverly, Iowa; her daughters, Jensine and husband Jason Scanlan and their son Jordan Scanlan all of Frederika, Iowa; and Emily Heim and her daughters, Megan and Madison Heim all of Zearing, Iowa; her brother, Lance and wife Gayle Levis of Lake Panorama, Iowa; her sister, Cheryl and husband John Rigler of New Hampton, Iowa; her mother-in-law, Bertha Mae Nielsen and her two sisters-in-law, Dona and husband Tom Garber and Marcia and husband Kenneth Snyder all of Audubon, Iowa; nieces , nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A visitation was held Sunday, August 7, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family greeted friends from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Ann was then cremated.
The Celebration of Life Memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Memorials may be directed to Ann’s family. Kaiser-Corson and Kessler Funeral Homes are in charge of the arrangements.
