Anna Mae Courcier, 96, of Griswold, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold.
Anna was born October 26, 1921, in Griswold, Iowa, to Albert and Emma (Rawlings) Rudig. She spent her childhood in Griswold and attended schools there, graduating from Griswold High School in 1939.
Following graduation, Anna applied for a job with the FBI and was hired to work in the fingerprint division. She moved to Washington D.C. and worked there for several years. Missing home immensely, she moved back to Griswold. On May 6, 1950, she married William E. Courcier at St. John’s parsonage.
Once back in Griswold, Anna worked several local jobs before becoming secretary to the high school principal. She retired from there in 1985. Wanting something else to fill her time, she then was hostess at Dusty’s in Griswold until she reached the age of 84. She really enjoyed that job being able to talk to and see so many people she knew.
Anna was on the Griswold City Council for 15 years, was a member of the Griswold American Legion Post 508 Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Cass County Museum in Griswold.
Some enjoyments of Anna’s were working outside with flowers, cooking, traveling and shopping. She really liked costume jewelry and listening to George Strait. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and spending time with them.
Preceding Anna in death were her parents; her husband, William; siblings, Yvonne (Earl) Richards, Richard Rudig, Albert (Kathleen) Rudig Jr., and Dale (Joan) Rudig; sisters-in-law, Linda Rudig and Jadene Rudig; grand-daughter-in-law, Laura Champlin; nephews, Steven Rudig and Dale Rudig; and a son-in-law, David Adams.
Surviving Anna are her three daughters, Dawn (Philip) Chalmers of Grant, IA, Diane Harris of Griswold, IA and Denise Adams of Lytton, IA; grandchildren, Aubrey (Jeff) Styles, April (Rory) Miller, Angela (Chris) Turner, Amy (Tom) Carroll, Natalie (Steve) Ritter, Brian Champlin, Corey (Tammy) Champlin, Will (Kim) Adams, Sam (Jordan) Adams, and Darcy (Cody) Picard; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Stanley (Kristi) Rudig of Demig, WA and Dennis Rudig of Anacortes, WA; honorary daughter, Celeste (Bob) Peck of Griswold, IA; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
