Anna Paulsen

August 29, 1925 — November 18, 2012

Anna Margaret Janssen was born August 29, 1925, Onaka, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert R. and Freda (Dufloth) Janssen and passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Anna attended school in Owasa, Hardin County, Iowa, graduating in 1943. She lived in Atlantic for several years and then moved to Council Bluffs, eventually settling back in Atlantic.

Anna married Darrell Paulsen and they had three children.

She worked at the Railroad Cafe in Atlantic for her mother-in-law, then in factories and Rank's Department Store in Council Bluffs, and in Atlantic she worked for De Long's and as a production worker at Oakland Foods. Anna was a hard worker, and was still working when she was 70 years old.

Anna wanted everyone she met to call her Grandma because that was her most important job. Her grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian, and later, her great-grandchildren, were her life. She enjoyed nothing more than dedicating her time to caring for them.

She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. Her hobbies included flower gardening and raising tomatoes. She also enjoyed baking and making puppy chow to share with the secretaries at Washington School.

Anna was preceded in death by her son, Robert Wayne Paulsen, and her parents, Albert and Freda Janssen.

Survivors include her children, Jim Readel of Eldora, Iowa, Trudy Edner and Judy Miller both of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike Phippen) Muzney of Atlantic and Brian (Jodi) Edner of Newnan, Georgia; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Atlantic Animal Shelter.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
