Anna Stanley

June 17, 1919 — March 20, 2014

Anna Margaret Madsen was born June 17, 1919, in Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of Hans Christian Andersen Madsen and Elizabeth Cecelia (Conrad) Madsen and passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

She lived in rural Audubon County and attended country school. Anna worked at the M&M Café in Audubon. On May 12, 1947, Anna married Jack Melvin Stanley at St. Patrick’s Church in Audubon. The couple then moved to Atlantic where they raised their family. Jack and Anna owned and operated Stanley Electric and Appliance in Atlantic.

Anna was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon and later SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Anna’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting and bird watching. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning the fruits of her labor to share with her family. She was well known for her dill pickles. Anna also enjoyed watching game shows, especially The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stanley; her son, James Stanley; her parents, Hans and Elizabeth Madsen; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph (Ruby) Madsen and Edward (Donnavee) Madsen; and her son-in-law, Gary Hack.

Anna is survived by her children, Bow (Penny) Stanley of Silver Lake, KS, Sherri Stanley Hack of Carmel, IN, LaRita (Steve) Huddleson of Phoenix, AZ, Gregory (Penny Collen) Stanley of Garnett, KS, Kim Stanley of Marion, IA, Deborah (Randy) Hughes of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jack (Robin) Stanley of Pearland, TX and Jeffrey Stanley of Atlantic, IA; her daughter-in-law, Vicki Stanley of Northfield, MN; her brother, William (Gert) Madsen of Audubon, IA; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m., with the family present to greet friends until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Burial will be in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic.
