AnnaMae Sarah Lawrence, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, died February 11, 2012, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
AnnaMae was born June 2, 1919, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Lora (Coffelt) Pond. She attended school through the 8th grade. AnnaMae was united in marriage to Walter F. Proehl in January of 1938. After that marriage ended, she was later united in marriage to Edgar E. Lawrence in February of 1969 in Las Vegas, NV. Edgar passed away October 29, 1999.
During her long life, AnnaMae had the pleasure of residing in several places including Atlantic, Cumberland, Creston, Corning, Council Bluffs and Madrid, all in Iowa. AnnaMae also lived in Ozark, Missouri, Omaha, Nebraska and Bakersfield, California. She also worked as a store clerk at many different places such as JC Penny and Graham's Department Store, both in Atlantic, Iowa, and Western Electric in Springfield, MO. At the age of 63 she obtained her chauffer's license to assist her husband, Edgar, in driving their semi truck over the road. AnnaMae drove truck for about three years before retirement.
AnnaMae was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 40 years. She enjoyed embroidery work, word search puzzles, reading her Bible and Bible quizzes. She loved her family and received great joy in spending time with her family. She was especially fond of her dog "Princess" and her cats.
Survivors include her son, Walter F. "Rick" and wife, Laura Belle Proehl of Altoona, IA; daughters; Sharen Kay and husband, Jerry Herrick of Wiota, IA, Karen Rae and husband, Leonard Theulen of Atlantic, IA and DeLila Ann and husband, Melvin Briles of Atlantic, IA; step-son, Marvin and wife, Joanne Lawrence of Omaha, NE; brother, Dennis Pond of Florida; grandchildren, Rhett South, Ryan (Carol) South, Laura (Kevin) Jobe, Robert L. Cook II, Preston (Chris) Nelson, Rick (Michelle) Nelson, Brad Herrick, Wade Herrick, Lynnette Herrick, Chad (Shari) Proehl, Dan (Vanessa) Proehl, James Proehl, Kenny (Alice) Jackson, Tawnya (Patrick) Keith, Shelly (Robert) Burrows, Stacy (Dan) Mueller and Shaunna Briles; step-grandchildren, Todd (Nancy) Lawrence, Missy Nikola, Darcy (Jon) Schwanke and Ty (Deb) Theulen; 30 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
AnnaMae was preceded in death by Walter F. Proehl and Edgar E. Lawrence; her daughters, Nolene Stephens, Shirlene South and Karon Rae Jackson; her granddaughter-in-law, Patty South; her parents; her grandson, Reid South; her sisters, Maxine Ethington, Delores Grundy, Norma Jean Lane, Marcella Pond, Betty Lou Pond, Wilma Smith and Darlene Pond; her brothers, Clyde, Gerald, Walter (Gene), Kenneth, Robert, Lyle and William (Billy) Pond.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2012, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery at a later date.
