Ardelle J. Andersen, 81, of Glenwood, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, passed away Thursday morning, November 30, 2006 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Ardelle Junette Andersen was born August 2, 1925, on the family farm in Monroe Township, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Elvina G. (Christensen) Hansen.
She attended country school in Monroe Township and graduated from the Walnut High School.
On April 17, 1949, Ardelle married Elvin L. Andersen at the Peace Evangelical Church in Walnut, Iowa.
She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic where she was an usher and was always willing to help when needed. She was known as a truly dedicated church member.
Ardelle was also a member of the DOES, Drove #23, Atlantic, Iowa.
She had worked for the Western Auto Store, the Atlantic High School, and most recently at Sitel, retiring from there at age 80.
Ardelle enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her new friends at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood, where she enjoyed the activities, food, and the staff. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was very important in Ardelle's life.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Andersen and his wife, Kimberly of Adair, Iowa; her daughter Debra Martin and husband, Steve of Glenwood, Iowa; three brothers, Donald Hansen and his wife, Luella of Walnut, Iowa, Merle Hansen and his wife, Ardell of Brayton, Iowa, Harold Hansen and his wife, Mary of Walnut, Iowa; a sister, Lavina Weiss and her husband Sunny of Atlantic, Iowa; two step-sisters, Kay Elmquist of Mapleton Iowa, Marilyn Bennett of Atlantic, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Hazel Hansen of Harlan, Iowa, Margaret Andersen of Omaha, Nebraska, Ruby Scholl of Anita, Iowa, Ruth Anderson of Atlantic, Iowa; a step brother-in-law, Dale Anderson of Atlantic, Iowa; a step sister-in-law, Mary Lou Andersen of Harlan, Iowa. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Joseph Martin and his wife, Leslie, Brad and Holly Martin, Austin Andersen and his wife, Kristy, Drew and Amy Andersen, Shiana Irlbeck; four great-grandchildren, Brendon and Cole Andersen, Ava and Josiah Roy.
Ardelle was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elvina Hansen; her husband, Elvin Andersen, on March 31, 1997; a sister, Henrietta Henningsen; a half-brother, Norman Hansen; step-sister, Verlee Andersen; step-brother, Lynn Andersen; and a step bother-in-law, Gene Elmquist.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2006 at
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Reverends Dennis and Sally Meyer officiating.
Public visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery followed by fellowship and lunch in the Fellowship Hall at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
