Ardyth Faye Barber, the daughter of Floyd and Annis Marie (Krogh) Zinke, was born May 11, 1944, in Carroll, Iowa and died July 28, 2014, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 17days.
Ardyth was baptized May 3, 1945 and confirmed April 6, 1958 at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1962. Ardyth was very active in school. She played basketball and softball and participated in vocal music and the Speech Club. She was the Drum Majorette and had the honor of being the Homecoming Queen. Ardyth continued her education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City receiving a Bachelor’s in Teaching. Later she completed the Master Degree program at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Ardyth taught Special Education at Valley High School in Valley, Nebraska. She also coached basketball, softball, and tennis.
On August 2, 1983, she was united in marriage to Lonnie Barber in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived and worked in the Omaha, Nebraska area for many years until they retired and moved to Exira, Iowa where they made their home.
Ardyth attended the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She enjoyed collecting items including watches and clocks. She enjoyed writing and authored the novel “Dreams Catch On” which was published in 2012.
Ardyth was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband Lonnie Barber of Exira, Iowa; her step-children Dale Barber of Buccaneer, Nebraska, Chris Barber and his wife, Reta Oregon, and Brian Barber all of Omaha, Nebraska, Ronnie and wife Valerie Barber of San Antonio, Texas; numerous step-grandchildren, numerous step great grandchildren; her brother Val Zinke and wife of the Dominican Republic; her step brother-in-law Jonnie and wife Gloria Barber of South Carolina; step sisters-in-law Maxine Fowler and husband of South Carolina, Geraldine Fowler of Tennessee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
