Arlene Haase

October 6, 1938 — April 9, 2014

Arlene Therese Schlender was born on October 6, 1938, in Hazen, North Dakota, to Herbert Christ and Hilda (Wolf) Schlender. Arlene grew up in Hazen, ND and went on to attend Minot State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary and special education. She taught until her retirement in 1998. Arlene married Richard Theodore Haase in Minot, North Dakota, on August 17, 1963.

Arlene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, baking, camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Arlene was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the LWML and the Anita Home and Garden Club. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Hilda Schlender and her sister, Caroline Schlender.

Arlene leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her husband of 50 years, Richard Haase of Anita, Iowa; her children, Robin Haase of Lincoln, Nebraska, Todd (Mari) Haase of Omaha, Nebraska, and Beth (Rodger) Rasmussen of Elk Horn, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, LaVonne (Jim) Stroup of Washburn, North Dakota and Donna (Larry) Tabert of Loveland, Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa.

Lunch will be served at the Anita Community Center following the funeral service.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
