Arthur Wheelock

Arthur Edward Wheelock was born August 14, 1938, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Edward Arthur and Evelyn Louisa (Darrow) Wheelock and passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at his home in Anita.

He grew up on a farm on the Adair/Cass County line and later moved to Anita. Art graduated from the Anita High School in 1956. On July 5, 1959, he married LaRue Anne Taylor at the Wiota Catholic Church.
Art worked for Frank Hutchins and then went to work for Betts and Beer Construction in Adair, Iowa, in 1965, retiring after 39 years of employment. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita and a 40 year member of the Anita Volunteer Fire Department.

Art loved gardening and camping. He looked forward to camping at the State Fair every year. He was a skilled carpenter as a profession and a hobby. Art built furniture and cabinets and did all the woodworking in his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Evelyn Wheelock; his son, Troy Wheelock; his parents-in-law, Murvin and Madeline Taylor; his sister-in-law, Juanita Grindle; and his brother-in-law, Bill Taylor.


Art is survived by his wife, LaRue Wheelock of Anita; his sons, Bart Wheelock and his wife, Jeanine Fisher of Council Bluffs, IA and Tim Wheelock and his wife, Brenda of Anita, IA; his grandson, Michael Fisher of San Francisco, California; his granddaughter, Jasmin Pottorff of Martensville, IN; his great-grandsons, Alex Fisher of Council Bluffs, IA, Max Fisher of San Francisco, CA, and Chance Allen Pottorff of Martensville, IN; his brother, Dean and his wife, Priscilla Wheelock of Rockwall, TX; his brother-in-law, Norman and his wife, Carolyn Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with visitation with family following until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anita, Iowa, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.
