Audrey Wahlert

Audrey Ann Aupperle was born December 20, 1928, in Adair County, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy George and Alta Marie (Hutchins) Aupperle and passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

She lived on a farm in Adair County prior to moving with her family to the Aupperle family farm south of Anita.

Audrey graduated from the Adair High School in 1946. She then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and attended the Commercial Extension Secretarial College. During her seven years in Omaha, Audrey worked at the Blackstone Hotel as an elevator operator and also in abstract and real estate offices.
On March 7, 1954, she married William Wahlert in Lamoni, Iowa. The couple spent their lives together raising their children and farming. Gatherings with her family were a big part of Audrey's life. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.

Audrey was active in card clubs in Wiota, Anita and Adair, as well as other ladies groups. She also enjoyed dancing to big band music and bowling with her late husband. Later in life she became a big fan of sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. Audrey was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita, Iowa.

Preceding Audrey in death are her husband, William Wahlert; her parents, Roy and Alta Apperle; her infant son, Richard Wahlert; her infant granddaughter, Madison Ann Wahlert; her sisters and brother-in-law, Wanda (Harry) Brown and Joyce Hagan; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill (Bernadine) Aupperle.

Surviving Audrey are her children, Joni Lea (Bill) Bollinger of Omaha, NE, Wesley William (Jane McCann) Wahlert of Anita, IA, Marcy Lyn (Kevin) Blazek of Greenfield, IA, and Wylie Jay (Jean Jessen) Wahlert of Anita, IA; her grandchildren, Eric (Celeste Borts) Wahlert and Spencer Wahlert all of Anita, IA, Kenneth Blazek and Joel Blazek both of Greenfield, IA; her step-grandson, Michael Fleming of Council Bluffs, IA; her brother and sisters, Lowell (Inez) Aupperle of Greenfield, IA, Neil (Jannes) Aupperle of Anita, IA, Delores (Charles) Templeman of Atlantic, IA and Marlene (Jack) Shannon of Madison, OH; her brothers-in-law, Robert Hagen of Anita, IA and Ray Wahlert of Wiota, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Anita Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery will be a private family service.
