Barbara Vanderburg

Barbara Lee (Scherdin) was born May 20, 1942, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Ellsworth and Marjorie Anna (Quick) Scherdin and passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Atlantic Nursing & Rehab Center in Atlantic, IA.

She grew up in Atlantic and attended the Atlantic High School. Barb married Dallas Allen Petersen in Maryville, MO. Barb worked as a waitress and cleaned homes. Later she married Everett Vanderburg in Oklahoma City, OK.

Barb enjoyed making cherry pies, listening to music, collectables, and was a car enthusiast. She will always be remembered for her boisterous, all-encompassing laugh.

She was preceded in death by her children, Darren Petersen and Darling Petersen; her parents, Raymond and Marjorie Scherdin; her husband, Everett Vanderburg; her brother, Fredrick Scherdin; and her sisters, Sandra Petersen in infancy and Marjorie Ann Darnsteadt.

Barbara is survived by her children, Darryl (Barb) Petersen of Council Bluffs, IA, Doreen Petersen of Avoca, IA, Donna (Scott) Saggs of Council Bluffs, IA, and Diana Lee (Jared) Jensen of Omaha, NE; her grandchildren, Lindsay Petersen, Christopher Petersen, Cole Smith, Channing Petersen, Steven Saggs, Justin Saggs, Chelsea Saggs and Brittany Mitzlaff-Jensen; her great-grandson, Caliber Saggs; her brother, Gary Scherdin of Atlantic, IA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Lunch and a time to visit with family will be held in Hockenberry's Community Room following the burial.
