Beatrice Suplee

Beatrice (Bea) Suplee of Anita, Iowa, died Friday, November 11, 2011, at Colonial Manor in Anita.

The daughter of John William (Bill) and Alma Paxson Stettler, Bea was born July 19, 1919, at Allendale, Missouri. Her mother later married Otto Mortensen and Bea was raised as Beatrice Mortensen.

Bea graduated from Viola Consolidated High School of Ross, Iowa, and later from Drake University of Des Moines. Early in her teaching career she taught in rural schools. Later on she taught for 23 years at the Anita Elementary School.

She married Lester Suplee in 1944. She was member of the Anita Central Church of Christ, KJU Bible Study Club, Anita Sunset Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Bea is survived by her son, Gene Suplee of Newton, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Ted (Dulce) Suplee of San Diego, CA and Lester (Jessica) Suplee of Bonney Lake, WA; a great-grandson; a great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; 4 sisters, Helen Bancroft of Stuart, IA, Grace (Orville) Gard of Atlantic, IA, Norma Burnham of Marion, IA and Karen (Bob) Kaiser of Muscatine, IA; and a brother, Charles (Evelyn) Mortensen of Atlantic, IA; and other nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bea in death were her parents; step-father; husband; son, Larry in 1989; son, Duane in 2007; son, Rick in 2008; a sister, June Huley; half-sister, Agnes Kaufman; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.


Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.

The family invites you to a luncheon at the American Legion Hall following the committal service for a time of sharing memories and visiting.
