Bertha Lund Andersen

Bertha Lund Andersen, the daughter of Chris and Alvilda Lund Andersen, was born November 6, 1922, at her parents home in Audubon County near Exira, Iowa and died December 11, 2009, at the Exira Care Center In Exira, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Bertha was baptized December 10, 1922, at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa. She attended rural school in Audubon County and then helped at home. When she turned 17 years old she worked in Exira and also Atlantic, Iowa.
In 1951 Bertha moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where she was employed as a waitress at the Cobblestone Inn for several years. She then worked as a receptionist for Dr. Faine and Dr. Olson for a short time. Bertha became a sales clerk for Dumbaughs ready to wear clothing until they closed in 1958, then was a bookkeeper/sales clerk for Feldmans ready to wear clothing until November of 1961. Bertha moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and worked first at Butterys Clothing as a sales clerk and later at Stevensons as an assistant manager and bookkeeper/sales clerk through September of 1970. Bertha started a house cleaning business and also worked part-time as a waitress at the Sioux Valley Caf to supplement her income. As her cleaning business grew she needed to devote more and more time to the business until finally it became full-time work for her.
Bertha returned to live in Exira in 1991 and worked part-time cleaning houses until she retired. She enjoyed fishing, reading and putting puzzles together. In September of 2008 she moved to the Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa for a short time then moved into the Exira Care Center on October 31, 2008.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother: Nels C. Andersen; her sister: Elsie Jessen; her nephew: Gailyn Jessen; two great, great nephews; and her long time friend and companion Mac.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Leonard and wife Darlene Jessen of Anita, IA; Dorothy (Dee) and husband Richard Sorensen of Irwin, IA; Georgia Jessen of Anita; Marilyn and husband Ernie (Greek) Abariotes of Blair, NE; Evelyn and husband Raymond McAfee and Irene and husband Gary Nelson all of Olathe, KS; Carol and husband Ken White of Weeki Wachee, FL; Ronald and wife Michelle Jessen of Greenfield, IA; and Laverne (Andy) and wife Sue Andersen of Rapid City, SD; a very special friend Shelli and husband Bob Asberry of Exira; other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
