Bertha Seehusen

December 3, 1933 — January 21, 2024

     Bertha Seehusen, the daughter of Pedro Sanchez and Luisa (Hernandez) Guzman, was born December 3, 1933, in Los Angeles, California and died January 21, 2024, under hospice care at her home in Exira, Iowa at the age 90 years, 1 month, and 21 days.


     Bertha was baptized and confirmed at La Plaza Methodist Church in Los Angeles on November 11, 1937. She attended Alhambra Community Schools, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1952, and then attended business college.


     On December 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald Martin Seehusen in Alhambra, California. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Pomeroy, Iowa and moved onto Donald’s family farm. Bertha assisted Donald in operating their dairy farm and grew row crops to feed the cattle. She also helped as a Kindergarten aide. Donald died in 1971. Bertha lived on the farm until 1986 when she moved into Pomeroy. Later in 2016, she moved to Exira, Iowa to be closer to her family.

Bertha was a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in rural Exira. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved to play cards, travel, and listen to music by Andy Williams.


     Preceding her in death was her beloved husband Donald Martin Seehusen; her parents; her siblings John Guzman, Louis Guzman, Richard and wife Amelia Guzman, Edward Seehusen, Martha and husband Art Maatsch, and Lawrence and wife Orvilla Seehusen.

  

     Survivors include her daughter Denise and husband Paul Jesse, their children Angela and husband Lane Kalkwarf, children Jacob and Jesse all of Rockwell City, Iowa, Blake Flaherty of Waterloo, Iowa, Bob and wife Deecy Jesse, their children Tyler and Allison Jesse all of Lucan, Minnesota; her son Alan and wife Minerva Seehusen of Exira, Iowa their children Don and wife Bethany Seehusen and children Cai and Rex Seehusen all of Columbus, Nebraska, Annie and husband Spencer Roland and children Olivia, Grayson, and Piper Roland all of Atlantic, Iowa, Katie Seehusen of West Des Moines, Iowa, and David and wife Torrey Seehusen and children Leo and Micah Seehusen all of Thousand Oaks, California; her siblings Pedro “Pete” Guzman of Los Angeles, California and Lillian Nemick of Atlantic, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 


     A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, Iowa.
