Betty Carlene Coglon

October 23, 1939 — May 13, 2010

Betty Carlene Coglon, the daughter of Douglas and Lola Maye Golaway Landrum, was born October 23, 1939, in Clovis, New Mexico and died May 13, 2010, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 20 days.
Betty accepted Christ in her heart at the age of five. She attended school in Texaco, New Mexico and Farwell, Texas.
On February 1, 1957, she was united in marriage to Delbert C. Coglon in Clovis, New Mexico. Five children were born to this union. They lived in Texaco, NM and Farwell, TX until Delbert was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Anita, Iowa where they started farming. They later farmed in the Audubon, Iowa area for several years. During this time Betty not only helped Delbert farm, but was also a homemaker helping to raise their family. They again farmed in the Anita area before purchasing their farm northeast of Exira, Iowa in 1967. They raised row crops and also milked dairy cattle. While they continued to farm, Betty was employed as a cook at the Valley Caf for several years. Then later they purchased and operated Bettys Caf and Delberts Lounge in Brayton, Iowa. They sold the businesses in the late 1980s and concentrated on farming. Betty then was employed at Jumbo Jacks where she assembled cook books. Delbert died April 8, 1999. Betty lived on the farm for a short time before moving into Exira. Betty continued to work at Jumbo Jacks until she was forced to retire following her accident in late 2009.
