Betty Dill, 77, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Friday evening, November 10, 2006, at her home.
Betty Jean Dill was born July 14, 1929, on the family farm south of Stuart, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur A. and Agnes (Lahey) Johnson. She attended country school until the family moved into Stuart, where she graduated from Stuart High School in 1947.
She was married to LeRoy A. Dill on January 27, 1951, at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Betty worked at the Ben Franklin store in Stuart, Travis Grocery and Jim Marten Grocery in Adair, and at Whetstone Grocery in Casey. In 1965 she and Bud moved to Adair where she then worked at Oaks Clothing and the Adair News.
Betty was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where she was active in church affairs and the Catholic Women's Organization. She was a member of the Ladies Civic League and helped with Jesse James Chuck Wagon Days celebration. Betty was a charter member of the Six and 6 Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
Surviving Betty are her husband LeRoy (Bud) Dill of Adair, IA; two daughters, Connie Snyder and her husband Jim of Adair, IA, and Kathy Metzger and her husband Roger of Adair, IA; three grandchildren, Suzanne Caltrider and her husband Tim of Adair, IA, Ryan Klemish and his friend Jill Huss of Exira, IA, and Emily Ross and her husband Mason of Wapello, IA; four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, and Cara Caltrider of Adair, IA, and Nolan Ross of Wapello, IA; two sisters, Patricia Ruth of Riverton, Wyoming and Kathleen Dolan of Stuart, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents; one brother, Wilbur Francis Johnson; three sisters, Helen Metheny, Joanne Littler and Mary Ruth; and her parents-in-law, Clayton & Lillie Dill.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adair, Iowa, with Father Greg Leech officiating assisted by Father Al Sherbo and Deacon Fred Cornwell. Public visitation begins at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13, with a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m. followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m., at Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Adair.
