Betty Louise Lund, the daughter of Henry and Alice Bettis Reininger, was born September 27, 1921, in Shenandoah, Iowa and died September 16, 2011, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 14 days. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brookings, South Dakota. She attended Brookings Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1939. On February 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ralph David Lund at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parsonage in Shenandoah, Iowa. Three children David, Judy, and Ann were born to this union. Betty was a home maker for several years, and then attended Clarinda Junior College graduating in 1957 with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed as a LPN with the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah for several years before she worked as an Industrial Nurse for the Eaton Factory. Later Betty became a Dental Assistant and was employed by a local Dentist until she retired. In 1980 Betty and Ralph built a home in Big Lake, Missouri where they lived until they moved to Audubon, Iowa in 1985. Ralph died on July 5, 2004. Betty enjoyed her home then moved to the Friendship Home in April of 2007. Betty was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. She was also a member of the Garden Club. Betty enjoyed knitting, raising flowers and plants and listening to music. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the company of her dogs. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ralph D. Lund; her parents; an infant sister Jean Reininger; and eight brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law. Survivors include her children David Lund, Judy and husband Roger Malmberg all of Audubon, Iowa and Ann and husband Dr. Larry McDonald of Chillicothe, Missouri; her grandchildren Crystal Lund of New York City, New York, Kimberly Fangman of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Jody and husband Lonn Kiehne and Jenny and husband T.J. Paustian all of Urbandale, Iowa, Missy Malmberg of West Des Moines, Iowa, Sean McDonald of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris McDonald of New York City; her great grandchildren Adam Fangman and Cara Fangman both of Elkhorn, Ethan Kiehne, Jacob Paustian, and Hannah Paustian all of Urbandale, and Ian McDonald of Kansas City; her brother-in-law Carl (Bud) Lund of Columbus Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the funeral mass.
Service:
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Emmanuel Agwuoke on Monday, September 19, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
