Beulah P. Miller, 94, of Sun City West, Arizona and formerly of Lewis, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2010, at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona, with her family at her side.
Beulah Pearl Biggs was born to Royce and Grace Biggs January 26, 1916, on a farm near Emmetsburg, Iowa. In 1918 her family moved to a farm near Clear Lake, South Dakota. She started school in Clear Lake Consolidated School. At the age of 7 her family moved to a farm near Massena, Iowa. Later when she was 12, the family moved to Marne, Iowa. She attended Cass County Rural Schools and Marne High School for 2 years graduating from Atlantic High School in 1933. Upon graduation from Atlantic High School, she taught in the rural school system for a year.
April 28, 1936, Beulah married Harold Allan (Tubby) Miller. They lived in Atlantic, Iowa, until Allan went to service in 1943. She also taught in the Cass County Rural Schools for two years during that time. After the war they lived and farmed near Marne, later south of Walnut and west of Lewis. They quit farming in 1966 and moved to Lewis until she moved to Arizona in 2001. Beulah spent many years serving her community. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Organization in Walnut, a member of the Lewis Library Board, served as an Election Judge for Cass Township, member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, member of the Crescent Club, and various other social clubs. She was always ready for any card game or scrabble.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela and husband Gary Cannon of Sun City West, Arizona; brother, Raymond Biggs and his companion Irene Merriott of Stover, MO; sisters-in-law, Earylne Biggs of North Platte, NE, Elaine Biggs of Huntsville, AL, Pauline Biggs of Paducah, KY and Bonita Miller, Red Oak, IA; as well many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband Allan; parents, Royce and Grace Biggs; brothers, Royce, Jr., Robert, Richard, Oliver (Bill) and Don; brother-in-law, Lloyd Miller; and five sisters-in-law, Caroline, Hazel and Arline Biggs, Lucille and Neva Miller; and niece, Terry Biggs Waugh.
A Service of Worship and Celebration will take place at the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 20, 2010.
Burial will take place in Brighton Township Cemetery, Marne, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 20th, one hour prior to the service.
The family suggests a donation to the Lewis Library Fund in lieu of flowers.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is handling the arrangements.
