"Bill" Libby

Clarence William "Bill" Libby was born August 21, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the eldest son of Clarence Eugene and Lillian Marie (Baier) Libby. He entered into rest at the age of 68 years, one day, on August 22, 2011 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.


Bill was raised in Exira and Council Bluffs, Iowa, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in 1961. On August 5, 1966, he was united in marriage to Joyce Marie Wright in Memphis, TN. From this union, three children were born. They moved to Lewis, IA in 1970 and Bill worked many years at Oakland Beef Plant, American Builders and lastly, Walnut Grove Research Farm until the research farm closed.


Bill was baptized at Lewis Church of Christ where he was a member for years. Bill was a Lewis fireman for many years until moving to his current residence east of Lewis in 1981. Bill enjoyed "farm" life and especially liked having and boarding horses. Bill was a motor head who loved working on vehicles, and took pride in keeping his vehicles "spotless" inside and out. His children remember him being a hard worker, playing a mean game of Aggravation and Monopoly, and having a love for coin collecting. Bill's happiest moments were when the entire family could gather and spend time together.


Left to mourn his loss are one son, Larry of Lewis, IA; two daughters, Tracy (Curt) Wright and Kristy (Carlo Zenti) Libby, all of Atlantic, IA; six grandchildren, Kaelyn Marquez of Atlantic, IA, Seth Libby of Norfolk, VA, Kaelob Libby of Millard, NE, Shayla Libby of Estherville, IA, and Haley and Hannah Wright of Atlantic, IA; three step-grandchildren, Jere' White of Bellevue, NE, Claire Zenti of Ames, IA and Gian Zenti of Ankeny, IA; three great-grandchildren, Enrique, Giovanni and Koiyah Marquez, all of Atlantic, IA; and two step-great-grandchildren, Isabella and Ceceilia White of Bellevue, NE; three brothers-in-law, Roger Wright of Lewis, IA, Denny Wright of Preston, MO, and Ernie Wright of Hayden, CO; his friend & former wife, Joyce Libby of Lewis, several cousins and his beloved dog, Simba.


Preceding him in death were his parents; youngest brother, Marlin Dean Libby; and in-laws, Kenneth Wright, Margie Wright and John and Elnora Wright.


Visitation is planned for Thursday, August 25 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Hockenberry Family Care, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery near Lewis
