Billy Ray Bolin, the son of John Curtis and America Odessa Ballew Bolin, was born July 31, 1955, in Jonesboro, Arkansas and died March 29, 2010, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 55 years, 7 months, and 28 days.
Billy was baptized at the Pentecostal Church in Lake City, Arkansas. He attended Bay Community Schools and High School in Bay, Arkansas. He then worked several different jobs and spent time traveling.
On September 16, 1976, he was united in marriage to Laura Bandy by the Justice of the Peace in Jonesboro. They lived in Jonesboro and Lake City, Arkansas much of their married life. Billy was employed as a worker at the Southern Wooden Box Factory for many years. He then worked as a grain elevator operator for Riceland Rice in Jonesboro. He was employed at Riceland Rice until he was injured on the job and disabled in 1991. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1993 and then finally settled in Audubon in 2000.
When Billy was younger he enjoyed wrestling and even wrestled with Jerry The King Lawler. He also worked part time as a bouncer for many years. Billy was very family oriented and loved being with his wife, children and grandchildren. Billy loved to walk around Audubon, sometimes up to twelve miles a day, and enjoyed talking to his friends along the way. He was an avid baseball fan and the St. Louis Cardinals was his number one team. He enjoyed playing the guitar, playing pool, and loved watching cartoons and the Three Stooges with his grandchildren. Billy was a kid at heart, always had a smile on his face and lived a very simple life.
Preceding him in death was his daughter: Billie Renee Bolin; his parents; his brothers and sisters: Jewel Bolin, Dewey Bolin, Bonnie ( LaVondis) White, Betty Long, Iva Belle Bolin, Charles Vance Bolin, Vade Maye Bolin and his best friend David Walker.
Survivors include his wife and best friend for the past thirty three and a half years, Laura L. Bolin of Audubon, Iowa; his children: Tammy and husband John Sorter, Misty Bolin, and Amanda and husband Henry Thompson all of Audubon, Billy Bolin II and his wife Stacey of Winterset, Iowa, Dana and husband Daniel Presley of Batesville, Arkansas, Danny and wife Chelsea Bolin of Harlan, Iowa, David Bolin of Fort Madison, Iowa, Ricky and wife Patti Bolin of Atlantic, Iowa and Anthony Bolin of Sidney, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; his brothers: Larry Bolin of Audubon, Windell (Curt) Bolin of Des Moines, Iowa, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday, April 2, 2010, from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Galyn Wiemer on Friday, April 2, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
