Bruce Brown, 86, of Redfield, Iowa, died December 24, 2011, at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa.
Bruce was born November 28, 1925, in Casey, Iowa, the fourth son of Zort P. and Cora Brown.
Bruce was an army veteran who first worked at the Centerville Airport where he was a mechanic and attained his pilot's license. Later he worked as a farmer and welder in Adair and Cass counties. He spent 15 years with the Army Corps of Engineers at Saylorville Lake in Polk County and later the Rock Island District in Peoria, Illinois. He retired from there in 1987. After retirement, he and Ruth moved to Redfield where he worked part-time as the city zoning officer until 2010.
Bruce accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 18. He worshiped the Lord at Hilltop Chapel in Redfield, Iowa, until his final illness prevented it.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Zort and Manley Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Plowman) Brown; children, Rita Brown, Natalie Brown, Nathan (wife Kathy) Brown, Lindy Brown and Pat (husband Dan) Carnahan; one brother, Freeman (wife Aurel) Brown; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A remembrance service will be held at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011.
A time for visiting and sharing, along with a light meal, will follow at the Adair Community Centre.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
The family requests no flowers.
