Bruce Dean Nelson, the son of Lloyd and Lowene Hansen Nelson was born April 22, 1954, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa and died December 9, 2016, in rural Kimballton, Iowa at the age of 62 years, 7 months, and 17 days.
Bruce was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He attended Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1972.
On May 1, 1971, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Miller at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. Five children: Justin, Chris, Shandy, Ben, and Tim were born to this union. He was employed as a farm hand for his Uncle Tom Nelsen for a few years before they made their home in Elk Horn, Iowa. He then was employed by Ronald Liestad where he helped him farm and constructed grain bins. They moved northeast of Kimballton where he then helped his father-in-law on the farm and milked dairy cows. In 1983, they made their home on Jeanne’s family farm where they currently reside. For several years Bruce raised rows crops and continued to milk dairy cows and in 2001 started a cow/calf operation known as the Nelson Beef Farm.
Bruce was a longtime member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon where he also taught Sunday school for many years and was on the church council. He served on the Audubon Community School Board, Audubon County Soil and Water Conservation Board, and served as an Audubon County Supervisor for one term. He also was a trustee for Sharon Township for a number of years. Bruce enjoyed spending time watching and taking care of his cattle. He loved going and watching any event that his grandkids were in.
