Bryan Kite

January 1, 1962 — July 9, 2018

Bryan Robert Kite, 56, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at his home in Atlantic.

Bryan was born on January 1, 1962, in Harlan, Iowa, the son of Robert and Jerolyn (Andersen) Kite. His family moved and lived in several small towns in Iowa and settled in Kimballton, Iowa, when Bryan was in elementary school. He attended Elk Horn-Kimballton community schools and graduated with the class of 1980.

One thing Bryan was never afraid of was working hard. One of his first jobs was at Harlan Contracting. Bryan was a people person and excelled at being able to talk to anyone. This made him very qualified for customer service positions like working at Kum and Go convenience stores in several locations in Iowa. He attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, for a couple of years. He became re-acquainted with a high school classmate, Brenda Legan, during this time and they were united in marriage on August 1, 1987, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton.

Bryan and Brenda made their home in Atlantic with their son, Paul. Bryan was employed at Banker’s Life and Casualty as an insurance agent for a few years. He then worked at Levine’s and Deter’s car sales until May of 1996, when he opened and operated, The Car Guys, in partnership with Roger Poulsen.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Bryan was also a member of the Iowa Independent Auto Dealers Association. He was an avid lover of nature and enjoyed being outdoors and doing outdoor activities, especially fishing. Bryan was a very strong family man and spent countless hours and weekends outdoors with his son. He was also an entertainer and enjoyed having family and friends over for holiday parties and cookouts with him as the “grill master”. Above all, Bryan was an expert at putting life and life events into perspective. He tended to everyone else’s needs and looked out for others, as for him, it was always about the others and never about himself. Best of all he took great pride in being the “fun and favorite grandpa”.

Bryan is survived by his wife, Brenda Kite of Atlantic, IA; his son, Paul (Lauren) Kite and their children, Addison, Lincoln and Harper Kite, all of Atlantic, IA; his father, Robert (Karen) Kite of Kimballton, IA; parents-in-law, Jeanette (Merlyn) Knudsen of Elk Horn, IA; his siblings, Darin (Kristi) Kite of McKinney, TX, Michelle Kite Graham of Stanton, IA, and Shannon Kite of Lawrence, KS; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joanie Heuton of Kimballton, IA, Cindy (Kevin) Larsen of Carroll, IA, Max (Debbie) Knudsen of Kansas City, MO, Brad Legan of Apache Junction, AZ, and Peggy (John) Leader of Elk Horn, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jerolyn Kite; his grandparents, Albert and Alma Kite; and his grandfather, Svend Andersen.
