C. Donal Wedemeyer, 82, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
Clair Donal Wedemeyer was born on February 21, 1924, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of George Henry and Alma Lara (Christenson) Wedemeyer. He grew up on the family farm in Guthrie County, north of Adair, along with his two brothers Melvin and Bernal. Donal attended rural school in Grant Township and graduated from Adair High School in 1941.
On August 1, 1944, Donal was married to Marilyn Joyce Ernst at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. They continued to live on and operate the Century family farm where Donal grew up.
Donal and Marilyn raised four sons, Danny, Lynn Del, Lyle and Marlon. The family belonged to the United Methodist Church in Adair. Donal was a past President of the Farmers Lumber Company in Adair. He also served on the committee to form the Adair-Casey school system and served as Parade Chairman for the Adair Centennial Celebration in 1972.
Donal was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed nature and working the land. He enjoyed pastimes like woodworking and welding and also enjoyed family and friends, including the 4th of July group who gathered on his farm for more than 35 years.
Donal is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Adair, Iowa; sons, Dan Wedemeyer and his wife, Setsuko of Honolulu, Lynn Del Wedemeyer and his wife, Sharon of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Lyle Wedemeyer and his wife, Cheryl of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Marlon Wedemeyer of Honolulu; five grandchildren, Ryan and his wife, Jennifer, Jenni and her husband, Josh, Amelia, Olivia and Lauren; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Lucas; a brother, Melvin and his wife, Norma of Adair; sister-in-law, Virginia Wedemeyer of Des Moines and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Bernal.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Adair.
Burial will be in the Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 11, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair.
