Calvin Earl Campbell, the son of Earl and Myrtle Thompson Campbell, was born May 19, 1921, at his parents’ home in Viola Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died September 10, 2011, at the Richfield Health Care Center in Richfield, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 21 days. Calvin was baptized and confirmed at Mount Zion Evangelical Church in Viola Center. He attended Viola Center Consolidated Schools and graduated with the High School Class of 1939. He then started farming. On October 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruth Anna Marie Hansen at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. Five children David, Lois, Eugene, Neal, and Paul were born to this union. They farmed for many years before moving into Audubon in 1969. He was employed as a truck driver for Williams’ Truck Lines for several years. Later, he worked as a welder at Emmert Manufacturing for many years until he retired in 1986. Six months after retiring, he returned to the work force fulltime and worked in various jobs. Ruth died March 15, 1992. Calvin continued working until he was forced to retire following heart surgery in 1998, but still helped his children with various projects. Calvin moved to Perry, Iowa, in 2005 and then later moved to Richfield in 2009. Calvin was a long time member of the Assembly of God Churches in Gray, Iowa, Audubon, and later Harlan, Iowa. He was very musically talented and was able to play the piano, accordion, and the keyboard. Calvin enjoyed sports, especially, watching his sons play sports and later, watching sports on the television. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Lois Grimes; his parents; his infant sister, Lorane Campbell; his brothers-in-law, Orville and wife, Ruth Jean Hansen, Virgil Hansen, and James Fulton. Survivors include his sons, David and wife Lesya Campbell of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Eugene and wife Esperanza Campbell of Tucson, Arizona, Neal and wife Laurie Campbell of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Paul and wife Melinda Campbell of Amsterdam, Holland; his son-in-law Greg Grimes of Milbank, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; his sister Leone Fulton of Perry, Iowa; his sister-in-law Gladys Hansen of Audubon; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening, September 16, 2011, from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Alan W. Hazelton on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the Assembly of God Church in Audubon, Iowa.
